HERITAGE
Ron and Nancy Piazza’s roots in Santa Barbara run deep. Decades before the Sta. Rita Hills AVA, they partnered with Carmelite nuns to plant Mt. Carmel Vineyard, now producing some of California’s finest Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

OUR VINEYARDS
We farm two estate vineyards—Bella Vista Vineyard in Ballard Canyon, which is CCOF-certified organic, and the historic Mt. Carmel Vineyard in the Sta. Rita Hills, one of the oldest planted sites in the region.

BALLARD CANYON
Bella Vista Vineyard
Our home estate and winery, Bella Vista Vineyard, was planted in 2001 on the north end of Ballard Canyon and sits at 1,180 feet in elevation. Rooted in limestone-rich soils and cooled by Pacific breezes, this site produces wines of vibrancy, texture, and structure. Here we grow Syrah, Grenache, Graciano, Cabernet Sauvignon, Nebbiolo, Sangiovese, Montepulciano, and Merlot—each reflecting the diversity and elegance of this unique canyon. Bella Vista represents both our present and our future: a vineyard where tradition, sustainability, and innovation meet.

STA. RITA HILLS
Mt. Carmel Vineyard
Planted by hand in the 1980s by Ron and Nancy Piazza, Mt. Carmel stands as the second-oldest vineyard in the Sta. Rita Hills and a benchmark site for the region. Its steep slopes of diatomaceous earth (ancient ocean floor) and marine sediment yield Pinot Noir and Chardonnay of remarkable perfume, depth, and longevity. For more than four decades, Mt. Carmel has proven itself a source of world-class wines, shaping the reputation of the Sta. Rita Hills as one of California’s premier winegrowing regions.
